Case: Dienjaar
365 Days That Make a Difference.

How the Ministry of Defense onboarded thousands new recruits
When the Dutch Ministry of Defence launched Dienjaar, a new 1-year program for socially driven young people, they needed more than a recruitment campaign. They needed a complete candidate experience: one that spoke to Gen Z, scaled fast, and didn’t overwhelm existing systems.
Itorium co-created the full journey.
We established 9 core design principles to guide all learning interventions. We revamped the entire process, including tone-of-voice, positioning, and a flexible digital onboarding platform. An AI chatbot was trained to provide real-time support, enabling candidates to ask questions anytime.

Results
Over 3,000 candidates have used MijnDienjaar.nl, supported by 100+ videos and 70+ courses. The Royal Navy's 'Lookout' role onboarding was digitized, and an AI chatbot now handles most recurring questions, reducing helpdesk pressure. The platform's scalability was proven by adapting it for the Nationale Weerbaarheidstraining within three weeks.

What made it work?
Clear principles. Real user needs. And smart tech that supports, but not replaces, the human connection.

Our team takes care of the complete process. From writing a script to creating the most insane 3D animations.
